How Has It Been Done in Utah?
St. George, UT will open a new, $160 million airport early next year.
Approximately $123 million is coming from FAA grants; funds generated by airline ticket sales, user taxes, fuel fees, and not from federal income taxes. These funds, collected nationwide, are only used for airport-related projects.
$37 million is funding by local sources, including the sale of existing airport property.
No property taxes, income, or sales tax is anticipated to be used for St. George’s local share of the cost of the new airport. (3)
